30 days to a healthier you!

so, all thanks to larissa, i'm going to blog for 30 days on getting myself to a healthier point. We generally don't keep junk in the house, but i have to admit, john makes a lot of runs to the local 7/11. as Honeybees post says as well, it does take on average 28 days to to rid of cravings, one important thing as well is it takes about 20 days to adjust to new flavors. This is one thing john and I have done in the past. We cut out salt ( we don't even have a salt shaker anymore ), and though hard at first it's been about a year now and easier then i thought it could be. We had some tortilla chips the other day, just normal safeway tortilla chips and they were like salt licks for horses. sick. I don't bake as much as i used to, not because i don't love to bake ( i do ) but i don't like to have it in the home.

some of my problems:
Ice cream
starbucks
popcorn &
$0.05 candies. (dammit)

Over the next 30 days, i'm going to make sure i keep up my healthy eating habits, like actually eating breakfast! I've already cut out most starches ( white pasta, white rice, white bread [which I haven't eaten in years anyways] & potatoes ) I've replaced these with whole pasta and brown rice, instead of potatoes with dinner, i stick to a wide variety of fruits & veggies on the side instead. I'm going to vow to not eat any junkfood!

No ice cream ( not even the strawberry! )

No Starbucks,

No Popcorn, not even raw! ( corn has no nutritional value anyways )

and last but not least, definitely the hardest.. no $0.05 candies!

Now after 30 days what's going to happen? nothing. the point is to rid of my bad habits and kick them for good. I have goals that i want to work towards, my biggest one? i really want to do the west coast trail, a 7 day hike. i figured the best way to achieve my new habits is to announce it to everyone, that way if i fail, i'll be embarrassed. On top of the better eating, i'm vowing to do at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day. This shouldn't be hard as I already it the gym 5 days a week, I just need to drag john out of the house for runs/bike rides with the beef dog on the other 2!

So here's to not wanting to be embarrassed, wanting a healthier heart, a healthier life, and healthier me!

  1. Go you! A bit ago (when Andrew was in AB) i was exercising 3-4 times a week and controlling my calorie intake, when he came back I forgot about it and gained almost all the weight back I had lost (close to 15 pounds in 2 months. I'm sor t of back on the train, but this time I'm working out at home with the Kinect - ha we'll see how long that lasts. Maybe kick it into overdrive after the wedding. Good luck to you, man you guys are so much better - i just got andrew to quit coffee while I quit smoking. I'm at 205 days and he's at 2 months :P
